Let The Races Begin - Annual Woodland Park Cyclocross

Today was the annual Woodland Park Cyclocross race.  Dylan was a trooper and got up REALLY early to head out with her Dad.  Asa and I showed up just in time for her race.  This year we talked her friend Mateo to join us and she was very excited when he showed up!

Good Friends

Here's two groovy girls on their bikes ready to tear up Jefferson Park.

After a few laps around the park and a run through the water park the girls hit the playground for a little catch up time.

Asa loving watching all the kiddo's at the park.

Sunday Bike Race, G-ma Melvene and Rick, and Despicable Me "Oh, Yeh"

It was a beautiful Fall Cyclocross race at Woodland Park on Sunday. The colorful leaves were all on the ground, tons of bikers of all ages, and a huge turn out for the kids race. Cousin Jackson came and did his first Cyclocross race and had a blast! After his race was D's.  She was super excited to beat some boys. AND even more stoked to have a big cheer section that included Auntie Beans, Mom, Dad, Bridget and baby Poppy, and G-ma Melvene and her new husband, Rick!

It was all smiles until the line up then it was pure concentration!  Pappa Matt was leading the kids race which Dylan loved.  She was out to win!

Afterwards we had a nice visit with G-ma Melvene and Rick who came back to the house.  There was tea, books, pumpkin cake, Hello Kitty's and paper dolls, AND even Donald Duck (Rick totally won D over with his impersonation - which he will now be doing every time she sees him!).

Later that afternoon Dylan and I headed up to our friends Akemi and Yumi's house for a little viewing of Despicable Me and a full on super yummy bagel bar - 'Oh Yeh!' (to quote Vector for those of you who have seen the movie - it's D's new favorite line).

Thanks to all who came to support and cheer our little racer on!  It was an action packed day for sure.  D's eye were shut before her head hit the pillow!

Starcross 2012

Yes another bike race last Sunday.  Big cyclocross race out at Marymoore park in Redmond.  Dylan and I raced over (Matt was already there) to make it by 3:30 for the kids event.  When we got there we discovered the kids race was already going on - it started early!  We quickly found Matt and Dylan jumped in anyway and still had fun but words of warning to Zac & Terry, the sponsors of the race, someone has a few words for you for starting early "Those darn guys for starting early!  NO FAIR!!!  Don't do it again!"  Out of the mouth of a serious racer.

State BMX Strider Champion!

This past weekend was Cousin Jackson's 9th birthday - happy birthday Jackson! He had a super fun party at the BMX State Championships in Sumner.  We made the trek out and join all the family (as everyone was out to cheer Jackson on).  Well you can't go to a bike race these days without a little someone wanting to do the kids race.  So we loaded up the new helmet, the bike, the super fast socks, Auntie Beans & Poppy, a ton of food and off we went.  In BMX racing the races are done in motos so there are actually several races for a ride in a day.  In the Strider (aka kids race) there were three.  Here she is lining up and checking out her competition.

Dylan won 1st in two motos and 2nd in the last.  Placing is done by points so since D won two out of three that put her in first place!  At the end of the race she was given a stick with 1st place on it to take to the trophy wagon.  So we get to the trophy wagon, Dylan hands the woman her 1st place stick and says, I kid you not "I'll take the biggest you got."  And she got it - the trophy is as big as she is!

"I love this trophy!"  And she carried it proudly back to the family tent, slept with it last night, AND we had breakfast with it this morning.  I'm thinking it's now part of the family and will soon be needing it's own carseat.

So proud of herself, which she should be.  We can now say we have the State BMX Strider Champion living with us - along with a super big trophy!

Cyclocross Race Season Has Begun

Well it's bike racing season.  Dad's at it and so is D.  Here's a race from a few weekends back.

After the race we ran into our friends who just had their baby.  Baby Astrid is 4 weeks old in this picture.  Andrew and Mo were very kind in letting Dylan hold her.  It totally made her day.  So sweet.  Dylan says "Hey mom, look I'm getting in some big sister practice!"

Astrid started to get a little fussy so Dylan pulled out some of her funny faces and it worked, crying stopped.  Nice job Dylan.

Last weekend was a race at Lake Sammamish Park.  Here's Dylan supporting her new bike helmet - her head got smaller and her old one was a little too floppy to be safe anymore.  D was so excited about her new helmet that she wore it all the way to the race.  She was a little cold so G-ma Montana (who was visiting) gave her her sweatshirt.

The coarse was a bit big on this one so it was hard to catch pictures of her.  Here's a few of D going over the hurtles.

One To Go

Last night we headed over to Magnuson Park to watch Matt ride.  There wasn't a kids race scheduled but Dylan forced the issue and being the fabulous dad that he is Matt organized (and designed) a course for Dylan and all her new friends.  Here's a picture of Dylan taking over the lap count down for Matt's race.  She asked to hold up the numbers and announced to each racer the amount of laps they had left to go - along with some really loud cheering.  Nice!  I'm glad to say no one fell off their bike because of laughing.

BMX Champ

We have a new bike racer champion in the house! Yes, our girl is taking after her dad for sure. Yesterday we braved the heat and headed over to the BMX track for a little fun.  Cousin Jackson has been doing BMX for a few years now and has been loving it.  I gave Dylan the choice of going swimming or bike race - and guess what she choose.  So off to the track we went.  Thanks to Uncle Ben for giving us a hand through out the race (Pappa Matt was at home doing some work in the basement).  Dylan did the 'stryder' race - basically the peanut race on kick bikes.  She was a natural and took off right from the gate smiling all the way to the finish line.  There were three moto's she had to do and yup, she won all three so at the end she got a BIG trophy!  Oh boy is it big and best of all it's purple to match her new fastest tennis shoes.  She hasn't stopped carrying the trophy since the race yesterday and has shown everyone we've come across.  She's very proud and so are we!  Good job D!  And great job Jackson - it was fun to see you race.

Roslyn Bike Race

Kids bike race in Roslyn this weekend.  Dylan was not only the first kick biker across the finish line but also the first girl!  Way to go Dylan.  She was very excited and wanted to go again so we rounded up a few other little guys to go with her.  I watched and watched and watched the finish line but no D - then I looked over and saw Matt and Dylan up by the starting line - Dylan was red in the face from crying.  Apparently a kid on a pedal bike pasted her and she was mad!  Guess we'll be getting a pedal bike soon.

Camping

First camping adventure of the summer....

Final words by Dylan "I love camping!  I love hiking, I love our camper, I love my sleeping bag, I love marshmallows, I love sleeping with Maggie, I love throwing rocks in the river, I love....." and the list continued on.  Final final words "I don't want to go home!".   Someone had fun - we all did.
