100th Day School Food Drive

Dylan's preschool joined the school challenge of collecting 100 cans of food before the 100th day of school.  Well today they not only did it but they also made the West Seattle blog!  Nice job!!!

We want to give a big shout out to our friend Tiffany who donated several cans to help out - thanks T!

Here's the link to the blog if you want to see it for yourself:

Lil' Chefs Cooking School

Lil' Chefs. Oh it's as cute as it sounds. Imagine 12 toddlers all sitting around a kitchen counter listening to teacher Denise talk about kitchen rules and cooking up a storm. First day the little ones made english muffin pizzas and cut up their own fruit salads (with plastic knives). Dylan had a blast. We're taking the class with our good friends Miles, Gia, and Momma G (Dylan's nickname for Shannon). It was a hoot and Dylan was in her cooking glory.

Taco Bar

Uh believe me this kid has a home. Honestly she hasn't been living on the streets begging for change. This face is the result of taco bar night - a tradition I've carried on from my childhood. While growing up my dad and I shared a common bond over taco bar night - we loved it! All the toppings would be put in bowls on a lazy susan (okay we don't have the lazy susan but we do have taco stands) in the middle of the table and my dad and I would build taco after taco after taco. It was so much fun and sooooo good. My dad, like a jedi master, schooled me on how to build a taco correctly - we're talking hard shell tacos here. Since my dad isn't here to school the new crew I've taken on the jedi master role and have had to do some hard core taco building training ;)>. So now my family LOVES taco bar night as you can see from the picture above.

Grubbin'

We were just in Montana this past weekend. One morning we stopped by a our favorite bakery, Bernice's. We have now discovered they make the best granola - someone totally chowed it all down! Thank goodness we were in a rental car because not only was there granola all over a certain someone's face but it was all over the back seat! When I turned around to see what a certain someone was giggling about I saw the huge mess and started cracking up. Matt grabbed his camera and started shooting pictures and wouldn't you know the little jokester started saying 'cheese' as soon as she saw the camera! ha!!! Next time we'll buy two containers of granola that way maybe Matt and I could share one.

Oh almost forgot the best part! Shortly after devouring the whole container of granola little missy passed out cold - we're talking snoring and all. Of course we didn't want to disturb her so we left her exactly how we found her - yes, granola all over her face. When we got back to the rental car place they had to give us a ride to the airport - I laughed when the guy saw the back seat and then the passed out kid with granola all over her face - I think he understood as he said he had kids himself but I'm sure was a little bummed to have to clean it all up. I did feel bad but Dylan was so proud of herself that the whole thing made us laugh.

Oh Peas

Dylan has been on a pea-fest lately, can't get enough. Here's a funny series of her shoveling peas in her pie-hole.

Who Needs Hair Products?

When you have mango, banana, yams, and raisins. Dang, Dylan might be on to something, as it seems to hold your hair in place like concrete, and smells good too!

Ummmm, Good!

Only a face a mother (and father) could love!

Somewhere Dylan picked up this creative way to eat and take a nap all at the same time.

Nice try D! We'll give you one for being creative but you are still getting a nap!

Both Hands

Let's just say Dylan loves her food! She's been communicate with us about food - she has this funny way of telling us she's hungry, we call it ' baby bird'. Dylan knows when she wakes up she gets her diaper changed and then she gets fed. So now when I go in to get her up from a nap she smiles and then immediately opens her mouth real big indicating that she wants food - like a baby bird. She does the same when you hold a bottle in front of her - she smiles and then the mouth gets real big - it's hilarious. The doctor has given us the okay to start real food and our girl seems ready. She's been checking out our dinners for quite some time now. I stuck a little watermelon juice on her tongue the other day and she was reaching for more. Last night we were at Auntie Anne's house for dinner and I stuck a tad bit of guacamole in her month - her little face was like 'wow, that's very curious, wait that's really darn good' and then wanted more. Guess she's her mother's daughter. I love to sit Dylan in the kitchen and give her cooking lesson and she loves to watch - watch out Rachel Ray 'cause Little Dylan Ray is headed your way!!!

"Look mom both hands".

"Awe, now that was good".
